Inaugural Dragon Boat Festival to support Gulf Coast Kid’s House
Come out to Bayview Park on September 6, 2014 beginning at 9AM for the inaugural Pensacola Dragon Boat Race and Festival, benefiting Gulf Coast Kid’s House. The event is hosted and organized by Northeast Pensacola Sertoma and will last throughout the day and is free to spectators. Spectators at the event can enjoy free entry to the festival and a children’s area filled with a bounce house, kite flying and other activities. A live band will entertain the crowds all day and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
It’s not too late to participate as a Dragon Boat team either. Dragon Boat teams are comprised of 20 paddlers (minimum of 8 females), a drummer who drums a steady beat to keep team members in sync, and a steersperson. These team members will competitively row ornate dragon boats (provided) in heats across the bayou. Dragon Boat racing is a great way for social groups and businesses to test their strength and endurance, but most importantly their teamwork!
Gulf Coast Kid’s House Executive Director, Stacey Kostevicki, stated “We are thrilled to partner with Northeast Sertoma for this race. They have done a fabulous job recruiting teams and sponsors. In its first year, they already have over 20 teams signed up!â€
All proceeds will support Gulf Coast Kid’s House, a children’s advocacy center serving Escambia County.
